How horse racing can benefit from REALLY effective use of social media.

And why horse racing can do with an app as fun and irreverent as Angry Birds.

What is plaguing the marketing of Oz racing?

And has it all become too petty, parochial and in need of a new playing field?

Were Hong Kong racing fans one of the first to see the new Frankie Dettori?

And who the f*** is Umberto Rispoli and which spaghetti house did he come from?

Could “Jungle John” Moore be sizing up another jockey for his stable next stable?

We wonder who it could be?

There is all the pomp, ceremony and prestige of the Audemars Piguet sponsored pre-launch QE Cup Night.

And on the same night, there is daft sh*t like this.

TIME FOR SOME R’N R, BAMBINOS: RULERSHIP AND RISPOLI REIGN SUPREME IN THE AUDEMARS PIGUET QE CUP!

An “emphatic win” would not be doing it justice. Japanese raider, Rulership, demolished whatever else was in the race and mberto Rispoli just might be as good as he believes himself to be. Self belief is a great thing to have. We loved the cheeky arrogance of the young Italian jockey who, once he saw how easily he had won the race, stood up in his irons and looked at the grandstand as if to say, “Look, everyone, how easy was THAT?”

After days of talk and hype and pundits, the HK$14m Audemars Piguet Cup turned into a one act affair. Who came second, third and fourth? Does it matter? Seriously? Rulership reigned supreme, the emotions of the Japanese connections of the horse and the jockey were stuff which real racing is made of and extremely well captured by the HKJC Club production team.

We have bagged them before for their productions, but this time, they captured it all and was one of THE best post-race footage we have seen.

Hard luck stories? We don’t’ want to hear them and ayone who goes crying to the media with them is a a total knob. Thumbs Up, though good to come second, and Sweet Orange, which, despite a good barrier draw, again got lost in the shuffle and came third, were SIMPLY NOT GOOD ENOUGH. In fact, we’re wondering of Sweet Orange is even all that good and also tipping that “Wayward” Marwing will not be on the horse again- ever. People own horses to win with them and loyalty can only go so far. The other horses in this race? Simply not good enough. Not today. More importantly, we, in Hong Kong, just might have seen the new Frankie Dettori in Umberto Rispoli. Might have.
